Homeowners insurance has become a nightmare in Arizona. State Farm stopped writing new policies. Nationwide is dropping customers in high-risk areas. Home insurance rates in Arizona have increased 62.1% over the past five years—the highest increase in the entire country. The most common reasons for cancellation are non-payment, too many claims in a short period, or the carrier deciding to stop writing policies in your area altogether. If you’re being canceled for non-payment, getting current and setting up automatic payments with a new carrier usually solves the problem. If your company is pulling out of Arizona entirely (like State Farm and Nationwide have done in certain areas), that’s not your fault, and it doesn’t hurt your ability to get coverage elsewhere.
