You’re running a business in St. Johns, not playing phone tag with a call center in another state. When your commercial auto insurance needs updating or your workers compensation insurance comes up for renewal, you shouldn’t have to wait three days for a callback.
Here’s what changes when you work with an independent agency. You get access to over 100 carriers instead of being locked into one company’s rates and restrictions. That means when one carrier decides Arizona is too risky or your industry doesn’t fit their new underwriting guidelines, you’re not starting from scratch.
Your business liability insurance should cover what actually threatens your operation. Extreme heat damaging equipment. Dust storms creating visibility hazards for your commercial vehicles. Wildfire smoke affecting your property. These aren’t hypothetical risks in Arizona—they’re the reality of doing business here, and your coverage needs to reflect that.
We’ve been serving Arizona businesses since 2013 from our Mesa office. We’re family-owned, which means when you call, you’re talking to someone who lives here and understands what Arizona business owners face.
St. Johns sits in Apache County with a strong local economy built around utilities and public administration. More than 400 people work at the fossil-fueled electric generation plants here, and another 300+ are employed through county government. That’s a lot of commercial vehicles on the road, a lot of workers who need coverage, and a lot of businesses that can’t afford to get this wrong.
We’ve earned 930+ five-star Google reviews because we do what we say we’ll do. We answer the phone. We explain your options without the jargon. And when you need to file a claim, we’re still here.
First, we talk. You tell us what you’re dealing with—whether that’s a cancellation notice, a rate increase that doesn’t make sense, or just the nagging feeling that you’re not covered for the right things. We ask questions about your business, your vehicles, your employees, and what keeps you up at night about insurance.
Then we shop. With access to over 100 carriers, we’re comparing options you’d never find on your own. We’re looking at professional liability insurance if you’re in technical services, errors and omissions insurance if you’re providing advice or expertise, and commercial property insurance that actually covers Arizona-specific risks like extreme heat and dust storms.
Finally, we explain what we found. Not in insurance speak, but in plain language about what’s covered, what’s not, and why we’re recommending what we’re recommending. If you want to move forward, we handle the paperwork, cancel your old policies at no cost to you, and make sure there’s no gap in coverage.

Insurance for small businesses in St. Johns isn’t one-size-fits-all. If you’re running commercial vehicles, you’re dealing with Arizona’s unlimited liability exposure—unlike other states that cap injury damages at $250,000 or $500,000. That makes your commercial vehicle insurance limits more critical than you might think.
Workers compensation insurance is required in Arizona if you have employees, and with 79,500 non-fatal workplace injuries reported across the state in 2022, it’s not just a legal checkbox. It’s protection against costs that could shut down your operation. The extreme heat alone creates serious risk for anyone working outdoors or in non-climate-controlled environments.
Trade insurance covers the specific risks of contractors, electricians, plumbers, and other skilled trades. E&O insurance protects professionals who provide advice, consulting, or technical services. Business liability insurance covers the basics—slip and falls, property damage, legal defense costs. And with Arizona’s weather getting more extreme every year, commercial property insurance needs to account for wildfires, dust storms, and heat damage that other states don’t deal with.
Arizona commercial auto insurance premiums increased 141% between 2015 and 2022, jumping from $455 million to over $1.1 billion statewide. That’s not a billing error—it’s the market responding to increased claims, more severe weather events, and carriers pulling back from states they consider too risky.
Insurance companies have been hit hard enough with catastrophes that they’re narrowing their focus on where and with whom they want to do business. If you’ve been with the same carrier for 15+ years and suddenly saw a massive increase, it’s likely because they’re trying to price you out rather than non-renew you outright.
The good news is that not every carrier is raising rates at the same pace. Some are still competitive in Arizona, especially for businesses with clean loss histories. That’s where having access to 100+ carriers makes a real difference—you’re not stuck with whatever your current company decides to charge.
If you have employees, workers compensation insurance is mandatory in Arizona. There’s no wiggling out of it, and the penalties for non-compliance are steep. Beyond that, most requirements come from contracts, leases, or licensing boards rather than state law.
If you’re leasing commercial property, your landlord almost certainly requires commercial property insurance and liability coverage. If you’re bidding on contracts, general contractors typically require specific liability limits and additional insured endorsements. If you’re in a licensed profession—accounting, engineering, real estate—your licensing board may require professional liability insurance or errors and omissions insurance.
Commercial vehicle insurance isn’t legally different from personal auto in Arizona, but the liability exposure is. Arizona doesn’t cap injury damages like some states do, which means a serious accident involving your business vehicle could expose you to unlimited liability. Most businesses carry much higher limits than the state minimum for exactly that reason.
General liability insurance covers bodily injury and property damage—someone slips at your office, you accidentally damage a client’s property, your product causes physical harm. It’s the foundation that almost every business needs regardless of what you do.
Professional liability insurance, also called errors and omissions insurance, covers financial harm from your professional advice or services. If you’re a consultant and your recommendation costs a client money, general liability won’t cover that. If you’re an engineer and your design has a flaw that leads to financial loss, you need professional liability. If you’re in IT and a mistake in your work causes a client’s system to go down, E&O insurance is what responds.
Most businesses that provide advice, expertise, or professional services need both. General liability covers the physical risks of running a business. Professional liability covers the financial risks of getting your work wrong. They’re not interchangeable, and having one doesn’t mean you’re covered for the other.
If your carrier non-renews your policy, you typically get 30 to 60 days’ notice depending on the reason and your state’s requirements. That’s not a lot of time, especially if you’re trying to find replacement coverage on your own and don’t know which carriers are still writing business in Arizona.
The bigger problem is that a non-renewal can make you look riskier to other carriers, even if the cancellation had nothing to do with your claims history. Some companies are just pulling out of Arizona entirely or exiting certain industries. But when you’re shopping for new coverage, other carriers see that non-renewal and sometimes assume the worst.
This is exactly why working with an independent agency matters. We already know which carriers are pulling back and which ones are still competitive. We can place your coverage before your current policy expires, explain the non-renewal to underwriters in context, and make sure there’s zero gap in your protection. We also handle canceling your old policy at no cost once your new coverage is in place.
Wildfire risk does affect pricing in parts of Arizona, but St. Johns isn’t in the highest-risk zones that drive the biggest rate increases. What impacts your rates more is the general trend of Arizona carriers tightening underwriting and raising premiums across the board after years of increased claims and catastrophic losses statewide.
That said, Arizona has experienced 14 wildfires in the last 10 years significant enough to trigger federal disaster declarations, along with extreme heat, dust storms, and flooding events. Carriers are pricing for the reality that Arizona weather is getting more unpredictable and more expensive. Even if wildfire doesn’t directly threaten your property, smoke damage and business interruption from nearby fires are real exposures.
The key is making sure your commercial property insurance actually covers the perils that are likely to affect you. Some policies exclude certain weather-related damage or have sub-limits that won’t come close to covering a real loss. We review those details before you buy, not after you file a claim and find out you’re underinsured.
You can often package general liability, commercial property, and business income coverage into a Business Owner’s Policy from a single carrier. That’s usually the most cost-effective approach for small businesses with straightforward risks. But the moment you add commercial vehicles, workers compensation, or professional liability, you’re almost always looking at separate policies.
Workers compensation insurance in Arizona is typically written by specialty carriers who only do comp. Commercial auto insurance might come from a different carrier than your property coverage if one offers better rates or higher limits. Professional liability and E&O insurance are almost always standalone policies from carriers who specialize in your industry.
The advantage of working with an independent agency is that we can place each coverage with whichever carrier offers the best combination of price, coverage, and stability. You’re not forced to bundle everything with one company just because that’s all they offer. You get one point of contact—us—but the flexibility to build your insurance program from the best options across 100+ carriers.
