Here’s what changes when you have the right general liability insurance: you stop second-guessing every client interaction. You sign contracts without that knot in your stomach. You sleep better knowing a single lawsuit won’t drain your business account or force you to liquidate assets you’ve spent years building.
The difference isn’t just financial. It’s operational. When a client slips in your office or you accidentally damage their property during a job, you’re not scrambling to figure out how to pay a lawyer. You’re not wondering if you should settle just to make it go away. You make one call, and your insurance company handles it.
And if you’re bidding on commercial contracts in Anthem or anywhere in the Phoenix metro, you already know most require proof of liability coverage before you can even start work. The right policy doesn’t just protect you from what might happen. It opens doors to work you couldn’t touch otherwise.
We’re a family-owned independent agency based in Mesa, serving businesses throughout Anthem and the entire Phoenix metro. We’ve been helping Arizona business owners navigate insurance decisions for years, and we’ve built our reputation on being available when you need us—not just when it’s convenient for a call center.
Here’s what makes us different: we represent over 40 top-rated carriers, which means we’re not locked into one company’s rates or underwriting rules. When your current provider jacks up your premium at renewal (and they will), we can shop your coverage across dozens of options and find you a better deal without sacrificing protection.
We’re not trying to be the biggest agency in Arizona. We’re trying to be the one you actually want to call when something goes wrong. That’s why we’ve earned 930+ five-star Google reviews and recognition as one of the Three Best Rated Insurance Agents in Mesa. Anthem business owners work with us because we show up, we follow through, and we don’t disappear after you sign the policy.
First, we talk. Not a sales pitch—an actual conversation about what your business does, what risks you face, and what coverage requirements you’re dealing with. If you’re a contractor in Arizona, you already know the Registrar of Contractors requires general liability insurance for licensing. If you’re in professional services, your clients probably require it in their contracts. We need to understand your situation before we can quote it properly.
Then we shop. This is where having access to 40+ carriers matters. We’re pulling quotes from multiple companies at once, comparing coverage limits, exclusions, and premium costs. We’re looking for the policy that actually fits what you need—not just the cheapest option or the one that pays us the highest commission.
Once you choose a policy, we handle the paperwork and get you proof of insurance fast. If you’re switching from another carrier, we’ll even cancel your old policy for you at no extra cost. And when your business changes—you hire employees, expand services, take on a big new contract—we adjust your coverage so you’re not overpaying or underinsured.

General liability insurance covers third-party bodily injury and property damage claims. That means if a client trips over equipment at your job site, or you accidentally break their window while working, your policy pays for their medical bills, repairs, and legal defense if they sue. It also covers personal and advertising injury—things like slander, libel, or copyright infringement claims that can pop up in business operations.
In Anthem and across Arizona, the average small business pays around $45 per month for general liability coverage, though your actual cost depends heavily on your industry. Professional services like consultants or accountants typically pay $675-$780 annually. Construction companies and contractors face higher risk and usually pay $2,400 or more. The difference comes down to how likely you are to cause injury or damage in your line of work.
Most policies also include medical payments coverage, which pays small medical bills (usually up to $5,000) without a lawsuit even being filed. This is huge for maintaining client relationships—if someone gets hurt, you can cover their ER visit immediately instead of waiting for them to lawyer up. Arizona’s increasingly litigious environment makes this kind of quick response more valuable than ever.
One thing general liability doesn’t cover: your own employees. If a worker gets hurt on the job, that falls under workers compensation insurance, which is a separate policy. Same goes for damage to your own business property (that’s commercial property insurance) and liability from vehicles (that’s commercial auto insurance). Most Anthem businesses need a combination of coverages, not just one policy.
Arizona doesn’t require most businesses to carry general liability insurance by law. The exception is licensed contractors—electricians, HVAC specialists, general contractors, and others regulated by the Arizona Registrar of Contractors must have general liability coverage to maintain their license, though the state doesn’t specify minimum dollar amounts.
But here’s the reality: even if the state doesn’t require it, your clients and landlords probably do. Most commercial contracts include specific insurance requirements you have to meet before you can start work. If you’re bidding on projects in Anthem, Scottsdale, or anywhere in the Phoenix metro, you’ll see coverage requirements ranging from $1 million to $2 million per occurrence. Without proof of insurance, you don’t get the contract.
And if you’re leasing commercial space, your landlord’s lease agreement almost certainly requires you to carry liability coverage and name them as an additional insured. This protects them if something happens on their property that involves your business. So while Arizona law might not mandate it, the practical reality is that you need general liability insurance to operate.
You’re not imagining it—Arizona businesses have seen significant rate increases on general liability insurance over the past few years. The main driver is the surge in litigation. More lawsuits mean more claims, and more claims mean higher premiums for everyone. Arizona’s legal environment has become more plaintiff-friendly, and people are more willing to sue over injuries and damages than they were a decade ago.
Climate-related events and economic volatility have also pushed rates up. Insurance carriers are paying out more in claims across the board, and they’re adjusting premiums to compensate. Add in inflation affecting repair costs, medical expenses, and legal fees, and you’ve got a perfect storm for rate increases.
This is exactly why working with an independent agent matters. When your current carrier raises your rate, you’re not stuck. We can shop your policy across 40+ other carriers and find you a better deal without reducing your coverage. Sometimes the difference is dramatic—hundreds or even thousands of dollars annually. The insurance market is competitive, but you have to actually compare options to benefit from that competition.
General liability insurance covers bodily injury and property damage you cause to others. If you’re a contractor and you accidentally break a client’s window, general liability pays for it. If someone trips over your equipment and breaks their arm, general liability covers their medical bills and legal costs if they sue.
Professional liability insurance (also called errors and omissions insurance or E&O insurance) covers financial losses caused by your professional mistakes, negligence, or failure to deliver services as promised. If you’re a consultant and your advice costs a client money, or you’re a designer and you miss a filing deadline that results in penalties, professional liability covers those claims. It protects against allegations of professional negligence, not physical accidents.
Most service-based businesses in Anthem need both. If you’re a real estate agent, financial advisor, IT consultant, architect, or accountant, you face both types of risk. You could cause property damage during a site visit (general liability) and also give bad advice that costs your client money (professional liability). The policies work together, not as substitutes for each other. And like general liability, many clients require proof of E&O coverage before they’ll sign a contract with you.
Most Arizona small businesses carry $1 million per occurrence and $2 million aggregate, which has become the standard in commercial contracts. That means your policy pays up to $1 million for any single claim and up to $2 million total for all claims during your policy period. This is usually enough for professional services, retail operations, and light commercial work.
But your actual needs depend on your industry and contracts. Construction and trade businesses often need higher limits—$2 million per occurrence or more—because the potential for serious injury or significant property damage is higher. If you’re working on large commercial projects in Anthem or the Phoenix metro, general contractors may require you to carry $5 million in coverage before you can bid.
Here’s how to figure out what you need: look at your contracts. Your clients are telling you exactly what coverage they require. Then consider your actual risk exposure. If you’re working in occupied buildings, around expensive equipment, or in situations where a mistake could cause major damage, you need more coverage than someone working in low-risk environments. We help Anthem business owners analyze this all the time—it’s not about buying the most expensive policy, it’s about buying the right amount of protection for your specific situation.
Yes, and for many Anthem small businesses, that’s actually the smarter move. A business owner’s policy (BOP) bundles general liability insurance with commercial property insurance at a lower combined rate than buying both separately. If you have business property to protect—office equipment, inventory, tools, furniture—a BOP usually makes more financial sense.
The general liability portion of a BOP works the same as a standalone policy. You get the same coverage for third-party injuries, property damage, and legal defense. The difference is you’re also protecting your own business assets from fire, theft, vandalism, and other covered perils. For businesses operating out of leased space in Anthem or anywhere in the Phoenix metro, this combination is often required by landlords anyway.
BOPs typically cost between $500 and $3,500 annually depending on your business type, location, and coverage limits. That’s often less than buying general liability and property coverage separately. The catch is that BOPs are designed for small to medium-sized businesses with relatively standard risks. If you’re in a high-risk industry or you need specialized coverage, you might need standalone policies instead. We can quote both options and show you the actual cost difference for your specific business.
If you’re a licensed contractor in Arizona, letting your general liability insurance lapse puts your license at risk. The Registrar of Contractors requires continuous coverage, and if you can’t prove insurance, they can suspend or revoke your license. That means you can’t legally work until you reinstate coverage and get your license back in good standing.
Even if you’re not a contractor, a lapse in coverage creates serious problems. Any contracts requiring insurance become void, which means clients can terminate agreements and you can’t take on new work until you’re covered again. If you’re leasing commercial space, your landlord can consider it a lease violation and potentially evict you. And if something happens during the lapse period—someone gets injured, property gets damaged—you’re personally liable for all costs and legal fees.
Insurance companies also penalize lapses. When you reapply for coverage, carriers see the gap and consider you a higher risk, which means higher premiums. Some carriers won’t cover you at all if you’ve had recent lapses. The cost of letting coverage drop is almost always higher than just maintaining continuous coverage. If you’re struggling with premium costs, call us before you cancel—we can shop your policy and usually find you a more affordable option without any gap in coverage.
